7th batch of quality engineers from BITS Pilani Dubai get ready to make it big
337 graduates receive certificates from His Excellency Mr. Sanjay Verma, the Consul-General of India to UAE
BITS, Pilani-Dubai hosted its seventh convocation ceremony at its Graduation Hall in Dubai International Academic City on August 22 nd , 2010.The chief guest His Excellency Mr. Sanjay Verma, Consul General of India to UAE, presented the certificates to the seventh batch comprising of 337 students, who graduated in various engineering disciplines from the institute.
The seventh batch (‘Class of 2010' of BITS, Pilani – Dubai) comprised of 81 students of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, 80 students of Computer Science, 75 students of Mechanical Engineering, 23 students of Chemical Engineering and 78 students of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, who graduated this year with the B.E. (Hons.) degree. Of the total 337 students, 250 are boys and 87 are girls.
The first and second rank holders in each discipline and the best all-round achievers received special awards. Toppers of last year's batch were presented with Chancellor's Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals at the ceremony.
Commenting on the occasion, His Excellency Sanjay Verma, Consul-General of India , said, “Engineering has a prime place in education and in the economic growth of any country. With Manufacturing and Industrial sector being very important in building a nation you should be the torch bearers for bringing innovation in this sector. Keep reading and accumulate knowledge not only from the field of engineering but also economics, finance, marketing etc and thus make yourself ready for the challenges. Aim at excellence and success will follow you.”
M. Salahuddin, Managing Director, ETA Ascon group and Vice Chairman, Governing Council, BPD ; Dr. L.K. Maheshwari, former Vice-Chancellor and Advisor, BITS, Pilani – Rajasthan – India and Essa Al Ghurair, Director – ETA Ascon Group were the guests of honor on the occasion, while the proceedings of the ceremony were conducted by Dr. R. K. Mittal, Director, BPD, and M. Riazuddin, Director, ETA Net.
The event also saw the conclusion of the 10 th year celebrations. Dr. M. Ramachandran, the retiring (former) director, spoke on the multidimensional growth the Institute had in this 10 year period and its several milestones achieved. He listed the various year round activities held as a part of the 10 th year celebrations.
Syed Salahuddin, Managing Director of ETA Star Ascon Group, said, “At the outset I would like to wish all the graduates all the very best for their future endeavours. Keep upgrading your knowledge and reach great heights in your profession. You are indebted to your parents who have invested in your education and now its your turn to make them proud with your achievements. I would also like to wish BITS, Pilani – Dubai a hearty congratulations on BPD's 10 th anniversary and wish that its educational excellence keeps shining for 100 years”
Prof. Dr. R. K. Mittal while congratulating the graduates on their successful completion of their academic programs, advised them to have a constructive attitude and think of solutions and not of problems. He said, “ You are fortunate to be graduating from the international campus of one of the best technical institutions in India , the BITS Pilani. BITS Pilani will be always proud of you and your growth.”
M. Riazuddin, Director ETA Net, said, “BITS, Pilani-Dubai is maintaining the glorious tradition of its parent campus in India and its students are bringing so many laurels to the institution by being selected to the most prestigious universities and in the best companies internationally. I congratulate the graduating students and wish them all success”
This graduation ceremony marked the end of four years of engineering studies by the students, which included 7½ months of rigorous internship in various reputed industries in the UAE.
Including the 337 students who graduated this year, a total of 1319 students have graduated from BPD till date. Several graduates have obtained admission to Masters and Ph.D programmes at more than 65 highly reputed institutions like Stanford University-California, Cornell University , University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, University of California , University of Pennsylvania , Texas A&M University-Texas, Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Michigan , Purdue University , New Jersey institute of Technology , University of Toronto etc.
The remaining students are well-placed in highly reputed companies such as Microsoft, Oracle, Sony Ericsson, Sclumberger, Det Norske Veritas, Panasonic, Dell, Larsen and Toubro, Baker Hughes, MAERSK, J. Ray Mc Dermott, WS Atkins, Emirates Airlines, NAMA Mott McDonald, Honeywell, IRCA Middle-East, Acer, Infosys, Standard Chartered etc., in various parts of the world.
A large gathering comprising the graduating students, their parents, guests from the industry and faculty and staff of BITS, Pilani – Dubai attended the grand ceremony.
