BSF 2011
BITS SPORTS FESTIVAL - A GRAND SUCCESS
The awards ceremony for the 8th edition of the Bits Sports Festival took place in Bits Pilani-Dubai on 27 th April. The chief guest of honor for the event was the illustrious Indian tennis player-Sania Mirza Malik, recipient of the Arjuna and the Padma Shri awards. The ceremony started off with a BITS SPORTS FESTIVAL - BSF 2011 Flag down by Sania Mirza and Dr Rafiuddin summarized report of events and results of each day, and gave a vote of thanks to all sponsors and the BSF 2011 organizing committee. Next, a video montage with clips from various BSF matches was shown, set to the theme tune of BSF 2011 composed by the faculty and students of Bits Pilani-Dubai.
When she took to the stage to deliver her opening speech, Ms Mirza Malik was her usual charming self; she spoke about her school days and how much she enjoyed participating in sporting events , and said that she hoped that she will be able to witness the players in action during the next edition of BSF .Director ETA –Net M. Riazuddin and Director of BITS Pilani, Dubai Campus Prof. (Dr.) R.K Mittal also expressed their delight at the participation during BSF 2011 and congratulated Dr Rafiuddin and the BSF organizing committee. Sania handed out the medals and trophies to the winners of various sporting categories. The event was attended by the teams of all the participating universities, as well as the sponsors of the event. With this ceremony, BSF 2011, the most successful edition of the tournament till date, came to a close!
After the event, there was a gala dinner hosted at Ramada Hotel for the chief guest Sania Mirza, the faculty and the organizers and volunteers of BSF 2011. During the dinner, Sania Mirza interacted personally with the Deans and the organizing committee and wished them all the best for future editions of BSF.
For the coveted Overall Championship Trophy of BSF 2011, the scoring system was as follows: Winners received 5 points and runners up were awarded 3 points.
